U.S. Special Representative for Somalia (SRS) James P. McAnulty welcomes the June 23 signing of an agreement between the three-region and six-region state Southwest conferences to pursue a three-region state solution to include the regions of Bay, Bakool, and Lower Shabelle in southern Somalia. The United States commends the leadership of both conferences for their constructive work and diligence to find a compromise following weeks of reconciliation talks. We also recognize the critical role that the Federal Government of Somalia played in facilitating dialogue between the members of both conferences. “The United States welcomes this milestone agreement and will continue to encourage and support all parties to work to reach consensus on a solution that not only promotes inclusion of all clans in these regions but promotes peace and stability. We look forward to continuing progress towards establishing an administration and agreement on statehood by all parties,” stated the Special Representative. The United States Government remains a committed partner to the government and citizens of Somalia and will continue to support Somalia’s path towards a peaceful, stable, and prosperous future Source:Allafrica/NewsSomalia: United States Government Welcomes Baidoa Conference Three-Region State Agreement
