Gothenburg District Court, case number B 9148-21, has today sentenced Abdirisaq Mohamed Darod, 22, to life in prison for the murder of Osman Simmo, eight attempted murders and a felony. The crimes were committed in Hjällbo on May 30, 2021. Darod must also pay high damages totaling SEK 1.2 million.
On the afternoon of May 30, 2021, a shooting occurred at a location in the center of Hjällbo. Two masked men fired several shots, each with a gun, at a group of middle-aged men. The men had gathered at the scene to drink coffee and socialize. A 44-year-old father of five was shot in the head and died. Two relatives were shot in the arm and leg, respectively. Others in the party risked being hit by lethal shots.

The motive for the shooting is not clear, but the incident was related to a riot in Hjällbo a couple of days before the shooting. The now convicted 22-year-old was one of the two perpetrators. The other perpetrator could not be identified.

The court has considered it proven that the 22-year-old had intended to kill. He is therefore convicted of murder, eight attempted murders and a felony. He was charged with attempted murder of two other people but was acquitted because the people were not in the firing line and did not risk dying.

The crimes have been considered serious enough for the sentence to be life imprisonment. The 22-year-old must also pay a total of just over SEK 1.2 million in damages to the deceased man’s family and the others who risked dying. The court agrees with the verdict.

– It was a particularly ruthless shooting because it took place during the day in a place where many people were and risked death or serious injury, says Håkan Lundquist, councilor and chairman of the court.

The murder above was preceded by a riot two days earlier. For the riot, the gang below was sentenced to 2-4 months in prison each, a punishment that is unlikely to deter anyone but counts as a merit in the clan.
