Two men suspected of smuggling a huge amount of drugs including Captagon and hashish into the UAE and trying to promote them locally have been detained.

The Anti-Narcotic Department at Abu Dhabi Police said it arrested the two men after they were caught possessing half a million tablets of a (Captagon) drug and 3kg of hashish.

Lieutenant Colonel Taher Al Dhaheri, Head of the Organised Crime Combating Section at the CID of Abu Dhabi Police, said the men were arrested after the Anti-Narcotic Department received information that they possessed a big amount of drugs which they tried to sell to various people.

Police had tracked down the suspects and monitored their movements after being notified that they dealt drugs.

The force then caught them in possession of the drugs and attempting to sell them.

The pair has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
