Andrzej Duda wins with 51.2 pct of support: partial results

At 8am, the State Electoral Commission (PKW) announced the partial results of the presidential run-off from the 99.97 percent of constituencies, according to which the incumbent President Andrzej Duda received 51.21 percent of votes, while his rival, the Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski – 48.79 percent.

The turnout in the election, based on data of the State Electoral Commission (PKW) from 99.97 percent of constituencies was 68.12 percent.

PKW announced that they still await five protocols from regional commissions, among them from the one from Warsaw, which includes results from abroad.

Sylwester Marciniak, the head of the PKW, said that the results will not change significantly after the last constituencies are included.

In the exit poll, announced at 9pm on Sunday, the incumbent president recorded 50.4 percent of support, while his rival – 49.6 percent. The first late poll announced around midnight extended the lead of President Duda to 50.8 percent, while the second late poll pointed out to 51 percent of support for the incumbent President.

After the PKW announces the full result all the data and documentation is passed to the Supreme Court which will decide whether to approve the outcome of the election.

The new President of Poland will officially take office after taking an oath before the National Assembly (an extraordinary joint session of both chambers of the Polish Parliament) on August 7, a day after the current president’s term expires.
