Ministry acknowledges Diaspora engaged in  tourism, culture sectors

 The Ministry of Culture and Tourism acknowledged 200 Ethiopian Diaspora engaged in tourism and culture sector investment Tuesday.

The Ministry recognized investors engaged in promoting culture and tourism destinations of their country in hotel, lounge, resort, travel and tour operations.

Minister Eng. Ayesha Mohammad said that Diaspora investment in tourism has a huge role in promoting the country’s image and speeding up economic growth.

To this end, the Ministry is working to promote the tourism potential of the country. As part of the efforts, the Minister said the recognition would encourage investors in the sector thereby benefiting themselves and their country.

So far, over 3,000 Ethiopian Diaspora have been engaged in various sectors including industry, manufacturing, agriculture, real estate, tourism and service. They are creating considerable jobs, generating foreign currency and attracting investment through their promotion, she said.

Eng. Ayesha said that the Ministry is working to address challenges facing investors in the sector.

Ethiopian Diaspora Association Chairperson Eriku Goda on his part said that the recognition would motivate the Diaspora and others to engage in the sector. The sector would enable the Diaspora to benefit themselves and their country through generating income and promoting the image of the country, he added.

Established in 2008 , the Association has been serving as a bridge between Ethiopian Diaspora and their homeland. He said the participation of the Diaspora in the national development drive has been increasing and their contribution to the development of the country has been steadily improving.

Eriku called on the Diaspora to actively engage in various investment ventures which will never let them to loss as they do for their nation.
