Veteran Somali Journalist Dies in Ethiopia

Veteran Somali Journalist Ahmed Hassan Cawke has passed away last night in Jig-Jiga, the capital of Somali regional state in Ethiopia. His sister Canab Hassan Cawke has confirmed the death of her brother to the media.

Several Somali leaders across various political spectrums have sent their condolences to the family and friends of the late Journalist. Federal Government of Somalia Minister for Information has sent condolences on the death of famous Journalist.

 

Mohamed Abdi Mareye has described Cawke as a Journalist and great radio producer who contributed to Somali media and thus history will remember his great contribution.

On the other hand the self declared state of Somaliland has announced state funeral for late veteran Somali Journalists whose body will be airlifted to Hargeisa.

Somali Independent Media Houses Association (SIMHA) and National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) have also sent their condolences to the entire media Somali fraternity and family left behind by veteran Journalist.

Ahmed Hassan Cawye who started his Journalism career in 1970s has worked in various international media including BBC, VOA and also was spokesman for the military government of Gen. Mohamed Siyad Barre before collapse in 1991.
